The Bloomsbury Research Institute is a joint initiative between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and University College London to develop a global centre for excellence in experimental medicine.

The Institute brings together world-leading researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine's Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, the UCL Division of Infection and Immunity, and the MRC Centre for Molecular Virology - three of the most highly cited institutions in the fields of infectious diseases, virology, bacteriology and parasitology.

The Institute's mission is to discover and develop new tools for the control and treatment of infection, through improved understanding of pathogens and the dynamics of infectious disease in global populations.

Over the next three years, we aim to bring the Institute together under one roof. The Institute will:

  •  Be a global centre for research on pathogens, the diseases they cause, and translation to new modes of treatment and control.
  •  Provide a strong focus for research and interfaces between basic research, experimental medicine and population sciences.
  •  Bring together a critical mass of infectious disease researchers, in state-of-the-art facilities.

The Institute website is currently under development. For further information please email
